Ahead of International Women’s Day, Sinai Health Foundation announced an exciting investment that will help build the physical space to house the Centre for Mature Women’s Health – a Centre committed to closing gaps and addressing the health inequities that women face. It will also provide the resources for research, education and training to set a new standard for mature women’s health care in Canada and globally.
More than just a space, this is a significant milestone in the Centre's journey to lead the world in a transformative shift in the way health care is delivered to women throughout their lives. It will foster improved integration, fuel research operations and expand education activities, such as by establishing first-of-their-kind Chairs in emerging fields or expanding menopause training programs to equip health practitioners with the latest in treatments.
“It’s so exciting, and we in Canada should be so proud that we will have a Centre like this, because it will become a global example.“
— Dr. Wendy Wolfman, Director of the Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health and Inaugural Chairholder of the Carol Mitchell Chair in Menopause
It will also bring together a range of specialties to meet women’s diverse medical needs, addressing concerns about abnormal uterine bleeding, urogynaecology, premature ovarian insufficiency (POI), vulvar disease and sexuality, as well as supporting programs that address mental health, osteoporosis, breast disorders and cancer survivorship.
The ability to take these bold actions and improve access to equitable care has been made possible through the recent $25-million donation from The Hilary and Galen Weston Foundation and Janice and Earle O’Born. In recognition of their generous gift, the Centre will be renamed the Weston and O’Born Centre for Mature Women’s Health.
Thanks to this gift, the tremendous generosity of our community and the incredible response to our recent Hot and Bothered™ campaign, the Foundation has surpassed our $50-million fundraising goal to establish the Centre. This investment is not just changing lives today; it is inspiring a changed future for women’s health care in our city and beyond.
